Samsung washing machine error codes
Samsung changed how it labels faults partway through, so the same problem reads as 4E on an older machine and 4C on a newer one. Display width changes it again: a narrow display shows 5C where a wider one shows 1 5C, and the letter S is drawn as a 5, which is why SUD appears as 5UD. Every spelling of a code is listed on its page, so search for what your machine actually shows.

Stop the machine if you see these
LC, OC mean water or electrical trouble rather than a blockage. Turn the tap off, unplug the machine and read the page before running another cycle.

Things that look like faults but are not
These stop people mid-wash and send them looking for a repair. None of them needs one.
CL
- Child lock is switched on, which is why the buttons do nothing. Hold the two buttons marked with the padlock symbol for three seconds to release it.
- Cb or C6
- Calibration mode. The machine is relearning how to weigh a load and takes one to three minutes to do it. It has to run with the drum empty, and it is not a fault.
dn
- A firmware update is downloading. Leave the machine powered on; it usually takes about fifteen minutes. Contact support only if it is still showing after half an hour.
- SDC or 5DC
- The detergent drawer is not fully shut. Push it until it clicks. On machines with an automatic dispenser this appears whenever the drawer is left proud of the panel.
- Self Clean reminder
- A prompt to run the self clean cycle, not a breakdown. Ignoring it for long enough is how front loaders develop the smell people blame on the machine being faulty.
