What to check yourself
Step 1. Power cycle once, and only once
Unplug the machine for at least thirty seconds and plug it back in. A genuine one-off glitch clears here and never returns. If the code comes back, it is a real hardware fault and repeating this achieves nothing.
Step 2. Note what the machine does before it faults
Whether the drum moves at all, whether there is a hum, whether it fails at the same point in every cycle. Two minutes of observation saves the technician a diagnostic charge.
When to call a technician
Immediately. Bosch itself gives no self-help step for this code beyond a power cycle, and it is right not to: the drive circuit carries mains voltage into the motor, and diagnosing it means live readings inside the machine.

A new machine of the same class runs $500 to $1,500. Once a quote passes about a third of that on an older appliance, the repair stops making sense.

- Do the arithmetic before you agree to it. A board plus fitting lands between two hundred fifty and seven hundred dollars, against five hundred to fifteen hundred for a new machine. On anything over about eight years old the repair rarely wins.
